The dental implants procedure
The dental implant procedure is carried out with a magnifying loupe or microscopy, along with additional surgical lights and specialised dental surgical instruments to ensure accuracy and precision.
Bone grafting may be performed in the months leading up to your surgery. This is due to bone loss from disease or injury and the bone graft will provide your jaw bone with the strength and support needed for permanent dental implants. If a damaged tooth is present, it is removed via atraumatic tooth extraction surgery.
If there are missing teeth, the gum is surgically excised to prepare for the implant. The dental implant is then carefully placed into the jawbone and left for a few months. During this time it will go through a process known as osseointegration – where the bone and dental implant integrate.
A crown or bridge is fitted
After a few months, once the bone fuses with the dental implants and healing is complete, we will schedule another surgery to attach a custom-made crown or bridge to the dental implant.
Recovery and aftercare
Post-surgery, patients may experience some discomfort, but this is generally manageable. Your periodontist will provide you with instructions for recovery and aftercare. You must follow this advice to avoid complications and ensure the success of your dental implant procedure.
